It’s getting U.G.L.Y. at Nelson Bay Bowling Club

Nelson Bay Bowling Club is back for its second year competing in the Leukaemia Foundation’s U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year Competition.

U.G.L.Y. stands for Understanding Generous Likeable You. It’s is the Leukaemia Foundation’s annual fundraiser for the hospitality industry. In 2018 the campaign is celebrating its 10th birthday with nearly 1500 venues uniting through the campaign to make it the largest fundraiser in the Australian hospitality industry.

This year bartender Nicole Blue will lead the charge at Nelson Bay, where the club is taking part in the U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year campaign for the second year in a row.

Last year Nelson Bay Bowling Club raised $5873, which has given families living with a blood cancer diagnosis 73 nights of free accommodation whilst they are having life-saving treatment.

The amount raised also made the club eligible for one of the great prizes available through the campaign – a Red Balloon Travel Voucher.

The generosity of the club continued. The team donated the voucher back to the Leukaemia Foundation and the prize went to a young 28 year-old father with a young family, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and had been receiving chemotherapy.

This year the Nelson Bay Bowling Club is planning even bigger and better things! The team plans to hold an Oktoberfest Bare Foot Bowls Day on Saturday, October 20.

They will also team up with Trail Run Australia for a challenge that will see the team take on a distance directly related to how much money is raised. More dollars raised … more kilometres run!
