Diageo unveils latest innovation: Guinness Clear

Diageo has launched ‘Guinness Clear’, a product which is 100% H20 and ‘available from all good taps nationwide’ as part of its sponsorship of the 2019 Six Nations rugby tournament.

Guinness Clear features in an ad satirizing the cliches of beer advertising, with H20 splashing into a beer glass from a tap and drinkers enjoying the taste of water.

A master brewer-type holds up liquid “made to a time-honored recipe” and the ad ends with the voiceover telling consumers to “make it a night you’ll remember.”

The ad is part of the drinks company’s new global responsible drinking campaign, with Mark Sandys, Global Head of Beer, Baileys and Smirnoff at Diageo, said in a statement: “We think the light-hearted approach delivered through Guinness Six Nations will drive conversation and put responsible drinking to front of mind throughout the Guinness Six Nations and beyond. We want to make sure that ordering water, no matter the context, is an active and positive choice by the millions of fans who will be watching and attending the Guinness Six Nations over the next six weeks.”

The campaign will be supported by a social media campaign that can be followed via #GuinnessClear and will have a heavy presence at Home Nations’ stadiums, including branded water fonts and Guinness Clear sampling teams giving water to match day goers.

“Guinness Clear is a positive initiative with a great message, it engages with people and sports fans alike and reminds people to have fun while at the same time being aware of responsible drinking,” said Former Irish international rugby player Brian O’Driscoll.

“I’ll certainly be mindful of it myself as the Guinness Six Nations kicks off.”

The Guinness 2019 Six Nations started in Paris on Friday with an encounter between France and Wales.
