TWE announced as official wine supplier for Australian Open

Treasury Wine Estates has announced it is the official wine supplier for the Australian Open 2019.

The Australian Open is running from January 14 to 27 in Melbourne.

Pernod Ricard’s Jacob’s Creek label pulled out of its 13-year stint with the tennis tournament in October. The Australian reported it was believed Jacob’s Creek paid Tennis Australia at least $5 million a year for the sponsorship.

Other drinks partners of the Australian Open are Aperol Spritz, Canadian Club and Piper Heidsieck.

In October, the Australian Open also signed one of the biggest ever sponsorship deals with Chinese Baijiu brand Luzhou Laojiao.

Tennis Australia’s Chief Revenue Officer Richard Heaselgrave said the deal was “definitely within the ballpark” of its partnership with major sponsor Kia, with speculation in the sporting world that the figure could be around $100million.

TWE will supply a range of premium Australian wines to many of the restaurants and food outlets across Melbourne Park, with a special showcase within the vineyard precinct at Grand Slam Oval.

“We are delighted to announce Treasury Wine Estates as the official wine supplier for the Australian Open,” Heaselgrave said.

“We look forward to bringing a traditional cellar-door concept to life at the Australian Open and showing off some of TWE’s world class wines to the world.

“Fans can enjoy amazing Australian wines at the AO, all matched to the many and varied food options across the site and supporting the ongoing work we’ve done over the past three years to bring our expanded food and hospitality vision to life.”

TWE Deputy Chief Marketing Officer Angus Lilley added: “We’re thrilled to share some of Australia’s most loved and renowned wines with visitors to the Australian Open this summer,” says  “It’s extremely exciting to showcase wines from across the portfolio including Penfolds, Wynns and Seppelt. Our onsite activation will be led by St Huberts The Stag, a range of wines which embody the very best of Victorian winemaking and continue to see strong growth and popularity in the market.”

The Vault – St Hubert’s The Stag Tasting Room (pictured above) will provide a full cellar-door wine tasting experience in the heart of Grand Slam Oval.

TWE will serve a range of wine from across their portfolio – from local Pinot Grigio and Shiraz through to the iconic Penfolds Grange in a number of the Australian Open’s premium restaurants.
