The nation’s pubs turn U.G.L.Y

Iconic watering holes across Australia, including the nation’s tiniest pub Oasis Roadhouse and the legendary Birdsville Hotel are turning U.G.L.Y. in 2017.

The Leukaemia Foundation’s quirky U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year competition asks nominated bartenders to demonstrate their Understanding, Generous, Likeable, You while raising money to help beat blood cancer.

In return, there are some amazing prizes up for grabs including a $3,000 Flight Centre gift card and  a venue prize to the value of $7500 from Principal Sponsor, Hoshizaki Lancer.

U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year has been embraced by the Australian hospitality industry and has raised an incredible $10 million over the last eight years.

Big-hearted bartenders in almost every corner of Australia are getting creative and planning themed events, trivia and casino nights, monster burger challenges, cocktail masterclasses and more in a bid to be crowned their state’s U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year.

Every $80 an entrant raises during the competition will fund one night’s home-away-from-home style accommodation for a regional patient and their carer while they access life-saving treatment in city hospitals.

While the Queensland competition wrapped up on September 11, all other states officially kicking off U.G.L.Y. from October 1 to November 14.
