Great Northern Original goes on sale nationally

Great Northern Original Lager goes on sale nationally today, following its unprecedented growth in the Queensland market.

“Great Northern Original Lager was launched in Queensland in 2010 as 'the beer from up here' and was previously only available in that state," said CUB VP Marketing, Richard Oppy. "We have had overwhelming feedback from consumers outside of Queensland asking that we make this iconic beer available to all Australians. We’re excited to now offer Great Northern Original nationally.”

On premise, Great Northern contributes 29.5% of contemporary draught beer value – Original 11.4% and Super Crisp 18.1%.

Growing by 36.3% in 2016, Great Northern Original has bucked the trend in negative growth observed in the full strength beer category.

CUB is also experiencing huge growth in mid-strength beer with Great Northern Super Crisp and Pure Blonde Premium Mid, which account for a 107% share of dollar growth in the category.

The 2017 ALSA-IRI State of the Industry Report showed Super Crisp and Original were two of the top three brands accounting for all liquor dollar growth in 2016. Despite only being available in Queensland, Original was the third biggest contributor to dollar growth in 2016.

Great Northern Super Crisp is growing in value at 180% and Great Northern Original at 48.6%.

Great Northern wins Best Sales Achievement at the 2017 Australian drinks Awards

Great Northern took out Best Sales Achievement at the 2017 Australian drinks Awards last week.

It's the second year running the CUB brand has scored the top honour. Named after CUB’s first brewery in Queensland, the brand has been a runaway success since launching seven years ago.

A push among consumers to live healthier is contributing to mid-strength and low-alcohol becoming the fastest-growing categories in beer.

Great Northern Original will be available across Australia in six-pack and 24-stubbie cases as well as in 3x700ml long necks. The beer will also be available in the on-premise in 49.5l kegs.
